Identify mentors in your life

As you pursue your goals, you realize you need foresight.  Foresight comes in the form of mentors.  Mentors are support group and put years of experience behind you.

Mentors:

-Guide you

-Provide encouragement and feedback

-Push you forward

-Hold you accountable

-Care for your well being

-Believe in you when you may not believe in yourself.

-Want you to succeed.

The way to pay back your mentors is to: put their guidance to action, pay it forward by helping someone else, and thanking them.  A simple thank you page on your website might do the trick!

Be Realistic with your Skill Sets

Be Realistic with Your Skill Sets

There are so many things I want to learn!  There are so many things I think I know! I have a spirit of a life long learner who wants to constantly learn and do new things.  However, I need to take 2 steps back, breathe, and ask myself a few questions:

  1. What is the topic I’m trying to learn?
  2. What I do I really know about the topic?
  3. What do I think I know about the topic?
  4. What do I want to learn about the topic?
  5. Time: How much time can I invest in learning about the topic?
  6. Research: When will I gather information about the topic?
  7. Action: When will I make time to actually learn this new topic?

Adapting to your various work enviroments

After working in various work environments, I’ve learned one golden rule:

Adapt to each work environment because no one will change for you.

We all must learn to work in different dynamics.  Some variables you’ll need to adjust to include:

  1. The work culture
  2. The personalities of your co-workers
  3. The demands of your job role
  4. Giving trust and credibility to your teammates.
  5. Your intrinsic goals and needs at work

Write in a personal journal about your work experiences.  Reflect on patterns in the work environment.  How you have adapted to each workplace?  How have you excelled?  Which situations could you have improved on?  After a while, you’ll notice patterns in how you’ve succeeded.  You can identify your strengths, weaknesses, and needs in your professional situations.

Frustration is a natural response to shortcomings and failures.    Just take your experiences and hop off of the frustration bus.
